West Griffith Soccer Club kicked off their Billabong Cup season with a 5-0 victory over reigning premiers Yoogali Football Club on Saturday.

Westscoach Sharif Moursi said the late start to the seasonhad helped his team’s performance.

“Ithinkthe long wait worked in our favour,we explodedoff themark,” Moursi said.

“We havea talented young squad, they play attractive football, very fast ball passing and movement off the ball.”

Moursi said his side went into the game with a plan to combat the Yellow Tails’physicality.

“They play avery strong physical game, butwe didn’t give them a chance to play their game,” he said.

“We dominated most of the game, butcredit to YFC –they’re a great side.

“In the first half, the last 20 minutes, they came back really stronglyand we were on the back foot a bit.

“Wekeptpossession and tired out the opposition.”

MoursisaidGavin Wylie was voted best on ground.
